Legal Question in Personal Injury in Texas

Contractor

My father was killed 7 mths ago in a plant accident, we did'nt hire a lawyer right away because my younger brother's wife works for a marketing person who used to be lawyer and volunteered to help us. lately we been having personal issues between my older sister, my bother and I, to the point where my sister inlaw which is the secretary for this guy is also getting involved.I feel like that might affect things in the process in the long run if she decides to take his side.In the middle of all this is my mother. My question is, If I disagree with what is happening can I hire someone else to represent me alone?

We don't have a signed contract with this person.

Re: Contractor

Your message indicates that the situation has become confused. You are correct to protect your situation in this matter. Your portion of any proceeds for the tragic death of your father is likely not as great as your mother's, but it still has sufficient value to hire your own lawyer. Contact me at [email protected] if you want my assistance. Good Luck

Re: Contractor

I'm sorry to hear about your loss. As you can tell from the number of responses already received, you should get independent counsel, experienced with this type of action ASAP. I suggest you interview a few lawyers and see who is the best "fit" for you. You want to look at (1) experience in handling wrongful death matters (2) who in the office you'd be dealing with (secretary or lawyer) and (3) the personality of the office you're dealing with. Make sure it's a good match for you. If you want to call here, ask for either Cary or Dave. Good luck.
