What effect will breaking a lease have on my credit?

I lost my job and can't afford this months rent or the reletting fees to break the lease properly. What kind of effect will this have on my credit and can they legaly prosecute me for non payment?

It will have a bad effect on your credit. A lease is a contract and your obligations are spelled out. A landlord is not a social service agency and should not be treated as such. Welcome to the grown-up world and get two jobs quickly to make it up. Best of luck.
