Legal Question in Tax Law in Texas

I volunteer at my church to teach Sunday School. I have been a volunteer teacher for 16 years now. I have recently completed several workshops in order to be certified and paid for them out of my pocket.

Is the cost of the workshops as well as the mileage to and from the workshops and to and from each Sunday School class tax deductible...?

You should ask a tax consultant, not a lawyer BUT I know that if one volunteers for a charitable organization (such as a dog rescue that is 501(c)(3)), then mileage can be claimed (at a rate of .14, I think. It is on the IRS website). Not sure about the classes.

But, you would either have to file a detailed tax return (or possibly claim at least the workshops under "donations".
