Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Texas

My 18 yr old son suicided in 2007. He left behind no children. I deposited his last checks into his bank account. I have not been ready to deal with this issue until now. Is it to late? If not how do i do it? Do i need a lawyer or can i file papers myself?
