I want to know why my social security number is needed if I'm an executor of an estate. Will I be liable to pay taxes?

The estate may be liable for taxes. Your social security number shouldn't be needed unless you are opening an estate account and haven't applied to the IRS for a taxpayer i.d. number for the estate itself.
