if a married couple own property with a home and a spouse dies, does the survivor owe anything to spouses grown child

If this is the couple's only marriage and the child is the product of that marriage AND there is a will leaving everything to the surviving spouse, the survivor does not owe anythign to the child. If there are multiple marriages and the home is separate propoerty of the spouse that dies and there is no will, it gets VERY complicated.
