Legal Question in DUI Law in United Kingdom

I was taking my 14 year old daughter to school. I was pulling out of my drive when a red land rover drove passed so i stopped and waited until it had gone. I then checked to see if anything was coming. Nothing was coming so I carried on pulling out when I went into a silver polo. I don't where it came from nobody knows who is in the right or the wrong. However seeing as it was the other drivers right of way I have to pay the damage fee. Which for a little scratch on the back is 600. On the other hand my daughter says that I was already pulling out when the car came so why didn't the car stop. Do I have the right to say that I don't have to pay the amount or say we pay half and half each?

Dear Sir / Madam,

Ideally in such touch and go cases, both the parties squarely share the blame. it is always recommended to split the damages fee equally.
