Legal Question in Family Law in Utah

My husband and I separated 2 years ago. He is in Ireland and never became a U.S. citizen. I want to file for divorce. I have all the papers drawn up through the online source. Can I send these certified to his last known address if he is no longer in the U.S. or does he have to be officially served?

You have to first try and officially serve him. It is tricky with other countries in regards on how to serve because that they involve treaties and have to be served correctly in order for it to be official within the bounds of that treaty, the law in Ireland and the law in the United States. It's probably good to have an attorney on your side to get him served properly as this will most likely be the most crucial part of the divorce that involves an international party.
