Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Virginia

(For a family member) if a person's employment is terminated and the company is making the employee sign away their rights to sue in their severance pay agreement. Even though they are forcing this person no other option but to sign this agreement because they are knowingly terminated this person wrongfully and are forcing her to make a decision that should does not want to make. (Because her husband has prostate cancer and has been in treatment for years) can she still file a civil rights lawsuit or some other lawsuit for using this information as leverage?? She has been discriminated based on at least Age & Sex and wrongful termination as well as using her husbands cancer as a way of forcing her to make a decision to accept the money because her husbands health and treatment are being used against her. This person also has information about this company that could bankrupt it if it was ever to become public knowledge. Legally, if she must sign this, for the sake of her family, can there be any legal action taken against this employer??
