Getting Sued from out of state
My friend got sued for libel in Virgina because thats the Movant lives, he has less than 15 days to respond because he got his service from the court a couple of days ago.What steps can my friend do slow the suit down while he retains counsel.

He can file an answer "pro se" (without counsel) or he could try filing a motion for extension of time to answer. But doing either may waive a defense of lack of personal jurisdiction that you would certainly want to look into raising. I think the best thing to do is retain counsel in VA right away.
