Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Virginia

puchased a car from a guy on craigslist 1 1/2 years ago. a 2011 toyota camry, paid cash and he gave me the title which i then took to dmv to get it transfered to my name. on monday my car was towed and when i called to ask why they said it has been reposessed and they had an order to pick it up. I thought how can that be possible if i have the title here in my hand and the car is paid for. when i went to the towing companys office they checked out my title and did some research on the previous owner and fount out that he had purchased the car in florida, got a title loan for in in florida then brought the car to virginia, went to dmv to said that he had lost his title and got a new one then sold it to me with it. something went wrong on dmv's end or something slipped through the cracks because now im stuck without a car until they resolve the issue and its been 4 days since they towed it. is there any thing i can do? the title is clean and in good standings in virginia where i live but has an order from florida. should i be able to get my car out ?

No, you are unlikely to get your "car out" from the predicament described without paying the amount still due under the title loan and owed to this lender in Florida.

And, in fact your assertion that the "title is clear and in good standing in

Virginia" is not accurate as it likely is already clouded by the Florida lender's

claim for a lien against this car's title based upon this loan which apparently remains unpaid.

In short you've been scammed by another vendor on the notorious Craigslist

and your remedy (if possible) is to sue this scammer for your losses if you can ever catch up with him . And, furthermore, if you're waiting

"until they resolve the issue", don't hold your breath for this to occur as the "they" in this case is in fact YOU as a practical matter as it will be up to you to resolve it--if ever (in my opinion).
