Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia

My daughter ( 16) along with her friend has been charged for shoplifting. Sheriff told us that we would get an arrest warrant with court notice? What does it mean? Would an officer come and arrest them and produce in the court? Ot just issue summons? Will those summons be issued by mail or in person?

The sherrif will most likely send the summons in the mail or personally deliver it to your residence. The court date will be on the notice and she will have to appear in court for arraignment. My firm will usually contacts the prosecutor to negotiate a diversion. A diversion program will allow your daugther and her friend to aviod a criminal conviction. The charges would be dismissed as long as she met certain conditions. Please feel free to contact me firm if you have any questions.
