Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia

I stole two cans of beer from a drugstore-the police stopped me and I gave the officer the beer and he returned it to the store-ran my record and told me he wasn't going to arrest me because I returned it and had little record-dui 15 yrs ago-I have since gone through rehab and am now living in a sober house-not for show just realized through stealing and other events I needed help and finally got it-may I ask what I might expect in court-I live in Roanoke-Virginia thanks
