Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia

Last year at Christmas our church conducted Operations Christmas Child. There was confusion on who was going to drop off the boxes at the designated drop off. When I realized no one was going drop them off, I realized the deadline passed. I called operation Christmas child call center and they confirmed the deadline passed. It was suggested the church could hold on to them until next Christmas and deliver them at that time. The boxes were stored in the church basement. It was forgotten to inform the congregation. Since the boxes remain in the churches possession was there any legal wrongdoing? I understand there was a lack of communication but was anything legally wrong?

Any legal wrongdoing, like what? Since anything criminal would likely involve provable

intent on the part of the alleged perpetrator to commit such a crime, I would say, no,

most unlikely under the circumstances as described.
