Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

Bills

Me and my spouse are seperated. I was told by one lawyer that I do not have to pay the bill for my computer cause it was a gift or the washer and dryer because he gave them to me to take when we split. Now he says that he is going to file bankruptsy. If he does, can they repossess my computer, washer, and dryer or would I have the opportunity to take over payments? He is being stubborn and not wanting to give the payments to me now. Also, we are both on the title to my car and I am paying the payments, could they repo that if he files or not? Thank you.

Re: Bills

If your husband declares bankruptcy, he should be able to shield from the grasp of creditors a variety of personal property possessions including the items which you've mentioned, as well as whatever ownership interest he may be able to claim in your jointly-owned vehicle, under the applicable Homestead Exemption available to residents of the Commonwealth when they file bankruptcy.
