Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

child custody

My nephew has come to live with us in VA. A mediation agreement between his mother, my wife, and I was executed to give us physical custody. I tried to add him to my health in at work but was denied because they said an order had to be signed by a judge. Is this true or is our agreement just as legal?

Re: child custody

A mediated agreement is not binding as a court order. However, it may be a valid contract that is enforceable in a separate action.
