Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

Exwife filed show cause against me and court date set. My attorney could not be present for the date. Both sides attorney's agreed to continue and gave me a specific date. Additionally, I had recent surgery with complications during recovery. Saw my doctor the day before court and physician's note stating that I could not be present at court or have physical activity until the following month after my next appointment. Note was faxed to court the day before with explanation and after attorneys had already agreed to continue. Her attorney was to handle continuance. My attorney told me I did not have to be present.

Exwife somehow has me tried in my absence and obtains judgement with jail time. What are my rights and legal actions to take to reverse and even request punishment for this?
