Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

My husband and I have joint custody of his kids with his ex wife but we have physical custody of them. She gets them every other weekend. Well this is her weekend but she just informed us she is in the hospital but wants her new husband to pick them up and for them to stay with him while she is in the hospital. Now her new husband just got off the sex offenders list and her brother and his 15 year old son lives with them and my husbands daughter will be the only female there and this makes him very uneasy about letting them go down there. So my question is how much trouble could we be in if we don't let them go since she is technically not there?

Without having had the opportunity to review the exact wording of this custody order,

particularly, in reference to anything it might have to say about this "new husband" (if anything),

I couldn't hazard any prediction on this particular matter.
