do both parties have to sign for an legal separtion in the case of abandonment?

There is no status officially recognized under Virginia law as "legal

separation", but if there were, and there was a situation where one spouse had allegedly abandoned the other, no signatures would be required from the abandoning spouse in order for the other to pursue his or her lawful remedies.
