Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

We live in Virginia and my husband owes back child support in Massachusetts for his now adult daughter.

He has been paying steady for years as well as our taxes being withheld Their was a large accrual when he had Cancer and we didn't have any steady source of income and a lien was put on his bank account.

There are no longer minors involved in in his back child support or our current marriage. He has money withheld from his check each week to pay and we send in any extra we can. The interest and fees have added up to more than he owes in arrears. We want to pay it off as quickly as possible but it could take some time.

I feel a little freaked out, worried and unjustly punished as the second wife.

I would like to buy a house (or my own car) instead of paying rent (atleast I would be putting money into something I own instead of rent) but I am afraid Massachusetts will try to take the house. Can they take it if we are married but I am the only one on the title or deed?

No, "they" cannot since you as the second wife would have had no legal responsibility for the support of this child which gave rise to this

debt in the first place.
