Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

I did get a response to my question but it was not fully understood I think. My find got married in Suffolk, VA but not a resident to the United States. Being that she got married in VA does that mean she can file for a divorce in that state even though is lives in Panama and have never lived in the states and have no resident here in the United States?

No, your friend cannot file for divorce in Virginia unless she is currently recognized as a

legal resident of the Commonwealth and meets the other conditions required for initiating

such a filing.

However, that should in no way preclude her from filing for a divorce in Panama if

that's where she now resides and that the idea that she should have to go

back to the United States merely to file for a divorce because she was married

here borders on the absurd.
