Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

My ex wife took my son to the dermatologist. I am responsible for 76% of all medical bills. But I am to pay my portion of the medical bill to my ex wife. While she has never sent me a bill, she went to the doctors office and had the secretary there white out her name and send the entire bill to me. I never signed any papers at this doctors office authorizing them to send me any bills what so ever. Is this illegal?

Annoying bills

Actually, this is rather helpful. The white-out sounds a little odd. The bill, however, is quite useful. There is nothing illegal about a medical center sending a bill to the father of the child they for whom they provided services. And it is actually handy that you have the actual bill that shows what was the amount to pay should be.

The bottom line -- if mom does not pay her share, then you will need to compel the issue in court. You can attempt to force the doctor's office to get in the middle of it (just as your ex did), but likely that will backfire. Instead, pay the bill in full, and take your wife to court if she does not reimburse you. Promptly.
