Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Virginia

I am 34 years old and have gone through countless years of therapy and illeagal drug use due to my fathers emotional and mental abuse when I was younger. Fortunately now, I have been sober for 6 years and on the right track for recovery. I was wondering if I could sue my father for the years of emotional and mental abuse?
