Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Virginia

Depositions matter of public record?

I am an individual named in a civil litigation filed and heard in Federal district court.

Is my deposition by the opposition ever a matter of public record?

Re: Depositions matter of public record?

Depositions or parts thereof can be filed in court in support of motions and can be used at trial. While they are not filed, they are part of the record in the case and are not kept confidential unless there is an order providing such protection.

Depositions are part of the court record. Court

by a judge. Anyone who knows the names of the parties in the suit and/or the case naumber, may

normally access, examine, and even copy the record.
