Legal Question in Employment Law in Virginia

We are a allotted 40 hours of vacation and 40 hours of paid time off for sickness per year. Recently they have made policy changes. I called in sick on Wednesday. I've been battling a nasty cold and it got the best of me mid week. Thursday I was written up for taking a day off without giving 48 hour notice even though that is what the paid time off is supposed to be for.

The language in the new write up system says infraction. I live in Virginia so I doubt there is anything I can do but this was the same day they gave me a huge raise for being a stellar employee. My nerves are a wreck now by both extremes.

Is this legal?

Legal? Yes, I would think so, but if you have persisting concerns about it, why not take it

up with your company's HR department?
