Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Virginia

I am 19 yrs old and am on the lease to an apartment with my mothers boyfriend. On the application I was put as a dependent, not working and going to school but I did in fact sign the lease. I gave him my part of the rent in CASH which was a huge mistake I'll never make again, and I received a notice that he has not paid the rent and we have to go to court on the 7/14. He's also trying to break the lease because my MOTHER and I don't get along over the simple fact that she punched me in the face over dishes one night. I don't see why that would mean close the lease, but I have been gone over half of the month and am living somewhere else. Can this effect my credit?

Yes, absolutely, if the court hearing the matter enters a judgment against you which you then fail to pay.
