Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Virginia

landlord issues

no water for 7 weeks...LL came twice to fix it, but it doesn't last long. i pay my rent on time and try to stay one month ahead. what will it take to get water? i'm afraid if i push the issue, he will make leave, and i can't afford rent elsewhere. this is a good place w/very reasonable rent. i've lived here for 2.5 years, first with a partner, and now alone. there is no lease. please help.

Re: landlord issues

You have several remedies if your landlord is unable to provide essential services. Your landlord cannot use your demand to provide these services as a basis to remove you from the property. However, there are numerous reasons he could evict you from the property. For example if you are on a month to month lease or there is a provision in your lease term that only requires the landlord to give you 30 days notice of his intent to terminate the lease then he could evict you for that purpose. In order to properly determine your rights and to make sure that you don't lose your favorable rental situation you need to meet with a lawyer face to face and have them review your lease agreement.
