Legal Question in Medical Malpractice in Virginia

dentistry

i went to an appt to get my tooth drilled and a filling put in. My noraml dentist was not there but his sister was that day. (family operated dentistry). She did the procedure. I went home and for about 4 days i was in so much pain i couldnt eat or drink. All i could do was cry. NEver had that feeling before..I called my dentist when he came back from out of town and he told me to come straight in. he xrayed my tooth and said that she had sat the filling on my nerve and i had to rush and get a root canal. Can i recover the money it cost for the total precedure? the root canal and the crown? I dont feel it was my fault she did not do her job properly and i was in a lot of pain. Also what is the statute of limitations here. Thanks in advance
