Legal Question in Personal Injury in Virginia

Inmate escape

An inmate escaped from a local detention center and broke into my home. He stole all our jewelry, a handgun, and my truck to resume his escape. I have been told that this center has many issues. It has been brought to my attention that he was in a medium security building even though he was on a fugitive detainer. It is also rumored that it was about 45 mins before they knew he was gone. Might I have a case against the jail?

Re: Inmate escape

Yes, you might, unless the state or local jurisdiction's presumed claim of sovereign immunity shuts down your claim for damages.
