Legal Question in Traffic Law in Virginia

driving on suspended and having an accident

My husband let my son use his car and he was in a single vehicle car accident (hit a telephone pole). His license was suspended but we didn't know at the time when we loaned him the car, he did not live with us and was not on the insurance policy. Will my husband be charged and will the insurance company cover other people who were in the car that were injured? Please help!
