Legal Question in Traffic Law in Virginia

Do points tranfer from VA to PA

Issued a citation for speeding/wreckless driving 81MPH in a 65MPH zone in August 2005. Court date is end of September. Citation is in VA, I live in PA. If I pay the fine, do the points tranfer to PA? If so, should I be concerned as I have not had a moving violation in twenty years? Thanks!

Re: Do points tranfer from VA to PA

Va and Pa are both members of the Interstate Drivers License Compact. Reckless driving carries a mandatory license suspension and therefore if you are convicted in Va, Pa will impose a suspension on your driving privileges. You should contact a Va attorney and secure representation for the hearing.

Re: Do points tranfer from VA to PA

No points do not transfer if you simply received a basic speeding ticket, but your license will be suspended and a warrant may be issued for your arrest if a.) you don't pay your ticket, b.) were charged with reckless driving and don't attend court.

In PA this speed should not constitute reckless driving, however, I still recommend securing local VA counsel to represent you on this matter.

If you've been charged with reckless driving in Virginia, this is a criminal misdemeanor offense for which you must appear and may not prepay in order to dispose of the charge.
