Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Virginia

My grandmother passed away April 09, my brother is executor of her estate. Nothing has been done wtih her house and cars. As a beneficiary what rights do I have and how long can he drag his feet? Also she has an IRA that is supposed to be split between four of us, does that have to sit for a period of time before it can be distributed?

Estate issues are often slow, but they dont' have to be that slow.

The reason why money is not distributed right away is that the money must first be used to pay off any legitimate debts. The executor must publicize the opening of the estate and receive any claims for payemnt of debts owed.

Hoewver ther eis no reason for it to be that slow.

There is probably very little you can do to speed it up except maybe to challenge his status sa the executor. That is if he is not going to do anything maybe a replacement executor should be appointed.
