Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Virginia

I live in Brunswick County VA, my husband passed in Dec 2013 he owed back property taxes that he was paying on for his sole proprietor business for tractors and trailers. Now my county tax collector says that I still owe the taxes even though none of the equipment was in my name only his. She says that she can put liens on my house even though the house was only in my name. He did not have a will or estate. And I know that other debts have been written off because I showed proof that there was no estate. Are county taxes different because the only law I could find stated that the only bills that I could be held responsible for are emergency services. If I am not responsible for these county taxes please advise me on what I need to do to prove to my county office that I do not owe this tax. Also should say that none of these vehicles are in his or my name any more.Thank you for your time.

I do not believe you have any responsibility based on the facts as you outline them. Get a Brunswick County attorney to inquire of the tax collector why she thinks you are liable.
