If I marry a man in the Commonwealth of Virginia, would I be responsible for any debts that he would bring to the marriage (such as loans, etc.)?

You are not responsible for the pre-marriage debts of your spouse. However, there are many ways that you can get co-mingled with your spouse's premarital finances. So if you get involved in benefiting from the debt, such as using a car or house or credit card that has a debt pre-marital. So you could very easily get co-mingled with the debt by making use of the related asset or account.
