Legal Question in Business Law in Washington

End partnership because of divorce

My husband and I have had a partnership for 13 years. He is filing Divorce this month and is asking me to start my own business. Am I entitled to anything for being forced out of the partnership? Is it common to get reimbursed for ending a partnership from a divorce? It is a Service company and has made 300,000 net income per year.

Re: End partnership because of divorce

If your 'partnership' is a business partnership that you and your husband both contribtuted to, it may well be community property and its value subject to equitable distribution when the marriage is dissolved. I'd need to know more to be certain, but you may be entitled to receive a substantial portion of the partnership's value in the course of the marital dissolution.
