Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Washington

Sent to collections w/o being contacted by original creditor

I had surgery in early January. The doctor and the hospital billed my insurance and sent me a bill for the remainder. However in a routine check of my credit report I discovered that the radiologist sent me to collections without even sending me a bill or contacting me. I live in Washington state. What are my rights here?

How irritating. Write a letter to the radiologist and cc it to the Washington State Attorney General and ask him for the bill, and promise him you'll submit it to the insurance company.

When you have the matter resolved, write to the credit reporting agencies and ask to have your correspondence attached to the item in your credit report.

Theoretically that will clear up your credit report.

Hope this helps. Powell
