Legal Question in Criminal Law in Washington

Fines, Warrants, Probation Violation

I have a small fine still on a case from years ago. There appears to be a warrant for probation violation for not paying the fine. If I pay the fine in full, does that release me from the violation and the warrant? What would my next steps be after paying the fine to make sure as little happens to me as possible.

Re: Fines, Warrants, Probation Violation

Unfortunately, in most courts in washington just paying the fine will not remove the warrant, although paying the fine certainly helps. Keep your receipt when you appear in court for the warrant quash. You'll need to call the court and set up a court date to quash your warrant. When you do that, you can double check to make sure paying the fine doesn't take care of it. With a few courts, it just might. To make sure as little happens to you as possible, take care of this right away, have documentation showing why you didn't pay the fine right away, and double check that the fine is the only reason the court wants to see you.
