Legal Question in Employment Law in Washington

What constitutes quitting ''with good cause''?

I was hired hourly to work @ 4am; then moved to 11pm;

then moved to salary (exempt) 16 months ago & told to

''come in when you want, make sure you do 7 hours of

work''. A week ago my salary was revoked (for not

working all of a 7 hour shift), & I was then told to work

3-4 hours per day, hourly. I worked in a team of 2, my

partner was fired (for not being on time to work- his car

broke down); the new guy I'm working with is assured 7

hours nightly- because he's expected to come in @

5pm. My boss was quite confrontational about this

when it all happened; I asked for directions to HR, he

told me to ''find it myself''. I've had issues in the past

with my boss; a previous employee left a death threat

on my answering machine & later attacked me at work;

he was never fired or punished. I still have every single

condescending note left for me by the boss & the death

threat on my machine. My ability to maintain full time

hours & pay has been reduced.My only review in 4+

years here was near perfect. If I quit, will I qualify for

unemployment? If not, is there anything I can do about

this hostile work environment? All HR tells me is this is

an at-will state & I can be fired for anything @ anytime.

Re: What constitutes quitting ''with good cause''?

Contact an employment attorney in your area immediately. While I do not have the room to analyze all the issues, it appears that you are currently in a hostile work environment and may be able to pursue remedies after you quit or are fired. I recommend contacting an attorney in your area who can discuss with you your options.
