Legal Question in Traffic Law in Washington

Driving my friends car, got in accident! Please Help

I was on a long straight road, speed limit 40 mph, i came upon a car doing 25, so i signalled to pass (totally legal, dotted line) and when i was almost alongside the vehicle, they began to turn left, with no signal! i braked and avoided, and we struck going about 15-20. i panicked and left the scene (my first accident ever). the police filed a report without my statement and now the other drivers insurance wants $1500 plus medical from me! I was driving my friends car, who has insurance, but since the police basically ignored us, the other insurance company thinks my friend is uninsured and is charging based on private pay. The accident happened in King County, near Seattle. Do I try to get my statement added to the report? (it has been 30 days since the accident)

Call the other party directly and try to settle? I have no clue. Can I get the insurance company to come directly after me instead of my friend? Thanks for all your help, I definately need it....

You should contact your friends insurer immediately. It is likely that the vehicle is covered regardless of who is driving. They would pay for the damages and you would not have to worry about it. In addition, I recommend you contact an attorney immediately to discuss all of the ramifications of your decision in this matter. Please feel free to contact me should you have any questions.
