Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Washington

i am beneficiary of savings account

a family member recently died. She had asked me for my SS# and said I would be the beneficiary of her health savings account. She had no will. How would I be able to cash out that account?

Re: i am beneficiary of savings account

It will depend on how the account is titled.

If you are a Joint tenant to the account, or the beneficiary of an account with a POD designation, all you will have to do is contact the institution that the account is with.

If not, you may be out of luck (unless you file a law suit) as the property will pass pursuant to WA Law intestacy laws, and will go first to the decedant's family.

Feel free to contact me with further questions via email.
