Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Washington

Making a Will

I gave a child up for adoption. I have since met the child. We have some continued contact. When drawing up my will am I under any obligation to include this child as one of my living children for beneficiary purposes? I would prefer to not name this person as an heir but do not wish to leave a headache for my surviving children.

Re: Making a Will

If done legally, the adoption ended the parental relationship between you and the child. You two are no longer legally related and have no legal duty or right stemming from the terminated relationship.

You may want to consult an attorney to make sure that your will complies with statutory requirements.
