Re: Bankruptcy

Bankruptcy is a federal law which gives relief to people who cannot pay in full. You should call a bankruptcy lawyer and go in and see him or her to discuss how it works. Of course you can search on the internet and find a wealth of references. Some of the best ones are linked from the United States Bankruptcy Court pages. In essence, for a starter, Chapter 7 bankruptcy causes all of your unsecured debt to be discharged, except you may still have to pay back taxes, student loans damages from certain claims from people you may have physically hurt. Chapter 13 allows for discharge of additional debts by paying what is reasonable toward your debts over a 3 ear to 5 year period. If what you are able to pay over that time is not enough to pay all of your debt, the unpaid part is discharged for a fresh start exactly as in a Chapter 7.
