Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Wisconsin

I cosigned on an auto loan for stepson. He ended up surrendering the truck. tried to work something out with credit union but am being sued for them remaining $10,000. do I have any options? should I get a lawyer?

Yes, you should speak with a lawyer as soon as possible, before the time to fight the $10K lawsuit expires, since you will lose most of your rights to dispute your liability in state court after that. If that date has already passed, however, you should also explore relief from the judgment in the federal courts, where an experienced bankruptcy will probably do you the most good. Even if you do not want to file bankruptcy, that type of lawyer is likely to be able to negotiate the best deal for you in terms of a possibly discounted payment. You have many options, but time is not on your side for any of them if you do nothing.
