Legal Question in Criminal Law in Wisconsin

So my friends and I were out walking through the town, when we passed a construction zone. I just want to state that I did not partake in this stupidity, other than linger and suggest to leave. But anyways, they moved roadblocks into the street and took a light off the roadblock (no damage, just unbolted the light off). End of the story, Cops came and questioned what we were doing, we complied and gave our info (name, number, address) and were honest and let us off with a warning and made us move everything back. He did mention that if the construction company were to report damage, we would receive a citation for damage of property. What would this do to my record? How much would a citation be for such a minor thing be? Is there anyway I cannot be accused since I did not touch anything and wanted to leave? Im just stressed because Im not the type to get involved negatively with the police. Hope you can help and give advice. Thanks.

In Wisconsin, any time you are with people who are "doing something stupid," you can unfortunately be charged under our party to a crime law. Simply being present and available to assist as a lookout or in any minor fashion makes you subject to the same legal penalties as the main participants. If given the opportunity, most businesses will avail themselves of an opportunity to collect restitution and find a "problem." Therefore you should not be surprised if you eventually receive a summons or citation, but you would probably have a good case to fight it if so. Talk to a lawyer right away if you receive something.

Do not assume that I am your attorney because of my response here. Call my office in Racine (262-633-3090 for clarifications, but short of that, I will not be taking any action on your case.
