Legal Question in Employment Law in Wisconsin

wrongful termination

I was recently fired from a bartending position I held for 2 1/2 years. I was told the corporate office received a letter of complaint that I was extremely rude to a customer, and I was terminated immediately. I was not allowed to see the letter or learn any specific details of the complaint. Until this time I have always had positive feedback on my performance from management as well as patrons. I have never received a single reprimand--written or verbal. Can they legally fire me without giving any sort of warning or offering me the opportunity to refute the charge against me?

Re: wrongful termination

Hello,

The general law in Wisconsin is that you can be fired for any reason or no reason, without warning or any right to refute. The only exceptions would be if you were fired for disability, age, race, family leave, etc.

Your hope would be to contact someoneone at the company who would hear your side, if you can find someone who cares to listen.

Good luck, Mark J. Mahoney
