Thomas M. Canan graduated magna cum laude from the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire in 1986 with a B.A. degree. He graduated from the University of Minnesota Law School in 1989 with a J.D. degree. He was admitted to practice in the state courts of Minnesota in 1989 and in the federal district court of Minnesota in 1990. Following graduation, he served as a law clerk for Judge Any Morse and Judge Gerard Ring of the Olmsted County District Court in Rochester until 1990. He served as an associate attorney with the Winona law firm of Streater, Murphy, Gernander and Forsythe for a short time before joining the Rochester City Attorney's Office as an Assistant City Attorney in 1991. He served in that capacity for 8 years before leaving to start his own solo law practice in Rochester in 1999.

Thomas Canan strives hard to provide timely, quality legal services to his clients. We provide assistance to clients in the areas of real estate, family law, civil litigation, estate planning, public law and alternative dispute resolution. Thomas Canan became a qualified neutral under Rule 114 in 1999 enabling him to provide mediation and arbitration services upon request. His public clients include the Olmsted County Housing and Redevelopment Authority, the City of Plainview, the City of Oronoco, Oronoco Township and Salem Township in Olmsted County.
