Dear Sir / Madam,

In India, VAT replaced sales tax on 1 April 2005. Of the 28 Indian states, eight did not introduce VAT namely Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Jharkhand, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and Uttaranchal.
