489-f is a criminal case which has punishment of 3 years. It is the punishment of dishonoring of cheque. The relief to the complainant is that the person who has dishonored his commitment to the complainant goes to jail for 3 years on his complaint.

Relief is in 2 ways, either after getting the accused arrested the complainant and the accused can make a settlement.
