Legal Question in Family Law in India

My engagement was fixed to a gulf employee. later I realized that he had an engagement with someone else. also his behavior & way of talking was not good. That's why I told my parents to stop the marriage.My parents agreed. but he & his family is asking for compensation. what I have to do?
