Legal Question in Family Law in Nigeria

Thanks for your prompt response on the custody of my 11year old daughter. How do I commence the legal process of Joint Custody which you suggested. The 44- year old single mother is an asst director in a govt- media. Thank you

I can't remember the details of the legal nature of your relationship. If I remember correctly, there was no marriage. If there had been a marriage, I would have suggested some court remedies.

However, it turns out that things could be simpler now. The welfare office of the state or local government in which she resides can handle a petition from you seeking custody.

In addition, the National Human Rights Commission has offices in various states and they also handle petitions relating to custody.

Your petition or complaint should be that it is the right of your daughter (Child Rights Act) to relate closely with her father and it is also in her best interest in terms of mental and educational development.
